Sustainability Policy
We hold ourselves to the same standards we set for our clients.
Last updated: April 2026
Carbon-Neutral Operations
We offset 100% of our operational emissions — energy, equipment, and any business travel. We calculate our footprint using the same DEFRA conversion factors and GLEC-aligned methodologies we provide to clients, and purchase verified carbon credits to cover it in full.
We reassess annually and prioritise reduction first. Offsets cover what we cannot yet eliminate, not what we choose not to address.
Green Hosting & Infrastructure
Our platform runs on cloud infrastructure selected for energy efficiency. We favour data centres powered by renewable energy or committed to carbon-neutral operations.
We also design our software to be resource-efficient — optimised queries, aggressive caching, minimal unnecessary computation. Leaner code means less energy per request.
Remote-First & Lean Operations
CarbonCert operates remote-first. No office commutes, no unnecessary premises, and a minimal operational footprint by design. When travel is required, we choose lower-carbon options where practical and offset any residual emissions.
Sustainable Procurement
Where we rely on third-party services, we consider environmental practices as part of our decision-making. We favour UK and EU-based providers to reduce supply chain complexity, and default to digital-first for all documentation, communications, and client deliverables.
Transparency & Accountability
Credibility in the carbon space is earned through transparency. We hold ourselves accountable by publishing our own emissions data and offset purchases, using independently verified credits from recognised standards, and applying the same calculation methods to our own footprint that we offer to clients.
If we ask businesses to measure and report, we should do the same. We welcome scrutiny.
Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is not a destination. We continuously review our practices, adopt new approaches where they offer genuine environmental benefit, and set reduction targets alongside our offset commitments.
We stay current with evolving standards from DEFRA, the GHG Protocol, and the Science Based Targets initiative to ensure our platform and operations remain aligned with the latest climate science.
Fair & Accessible Pricing
We believe the quality of carbon verification shouldn't depend on the size of the budget. A business bidding for a government contract has the same PPN 06/21 requirements regardless of headcount — the tools to meet them should be accessible to all.
We price our platform to make registry-grade verification and ISO-aligned certification available to businesses that would otherwise be priced out of the market by traditional consultancy models, without compromising on the standard of what we deliver.
Data Privacy & Security
Our clients share sensitive operational data — energy consumption, fleet details, employee counts, supply chain information — as part of the carbon audit process. We treat this with the same care as financial data.
All data is processed and stored within the UK/EU, encrypted in transit and at rest, and never shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We are GDPR compliant and retain emissions data only for as long as needed to provide the service. Clients can request full data deletion at any time.
UK-Based Operations
CarbonCert is owned and operated by Brighter Planet Ltd, a UK-registered company. We choose UK and EU-based hosting, payment processing, and service providers wherever practical. Our planting partners include UK-based projects registered on the UK Land Carbon Registry alongside international programmes verified by Verra, Gold Standard, and the UNFCCC.
We believe in supporting domestic supply chains and keeping operations close to the businesses we serve.
