Sidlaghatta Biogas Project in India
The Sidlaghatta Biogas Project brings household-scale digesters to rural communities across Karnataka. Roughly 5,000 units replace wood and charcoal with clean biogas, cutting direct emissions and reducing pressure on local forests. Each installed system delivers reliable cooking energy and removes smoke from kitchens, improving daily living conditions.
The project generates verified emission reductions under the Gold Standard for the Global Goals. Annual output is roughly 34,600 credits, supported by documented impacts across poverty reduction, food security, health, clean energy access, and climate action. Credits are issued as VERs and tracked under Gold Standard ID 716.
Developed by GoodPlanet with on-the-ground implementation by SKG Sangha, the project operates at small scale but with clear, measurable results. For UK buyers, these credits offer a transparent route to support low-carbon energy adoption in underserved regions while backing a certified and already-delivering installation programme.

Gold Standard
Verified StandardThink of the Gold Standard as the "premium, fair-trade, organic" label of the carbon offsetting world. It's known for being one of the strictest and highest-quality standards. To get a Gold Standard certification, a project can't just prove it reduced carbon; it must also prove it contributed to at least three UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This means the project is also doing extra good, like providing clean water, creating new jobs, or protecting wildlife in the local community.
